France tells iTunes to open up or Shut up

The French government is now pushing through a law that will require Apple Computers to open up the DRM on iTunes' songs or else! This will enable users to download an iTunes song and then legally convert that song into any format they please. Also, it would make software to do such a task legal, and it would make the process completely legal.

For this to happen Apple has to open up the AAC format so that users can convert the songs.

Apple currently has no comment on the situation. It is possible that Apple could shut down its iTunes France branch.
