Nintendo DS Lite selling before release date?

The Nintendo DS Lite, originally slated for a June 11th release, is availabe for sale at Target and Walmart. There have been many different reports across the web so this isn't just a one-time incident. Check out this one guy who was able to buy one:


Originally, there was a post on the Nintendo forums but it looks like Nintendo has taken it down. Is this pre-release release a mistake on Nintendo's part?
